We now have been able to get our offices at The Bay Tree up and running. Ben is working hard on our refurbishment.
We have been carefully reviewing our refurbishment progress. We have had some major delays due to having to strengthen and rebuild our stair cases and also add some major structural support to our first floor landing above our hall.
Whilst we would have loved to have been open in time for the August summer season, we have very reluctantly decided that this just wasn’t possible and we have made the decision to postpone our re-opening to October.
This allows us time to complete the remaining parts of our refurbishment and to ensure that we deliver the very highest standards of quality that we wish to achieve.
This picture taken looking above the stairs in our hall, shows the structural support we have been installing from adding two steel beams above the stairs on our first floor landing, in order to correct support our landing floor which we discovered was sloping slightly.
Underneath our main staircase, looking down to our basement, we have been adding additional structural support to our staircase. We have also been doing similar support work on our second staircase leading from our first floor to our second floor.
Much of this work was only identified at a late stage in our refurbishment and, in order to comply with modern safety regulations, we could not ignore this.
This work has involved having to reroute some supplies – electric cables, data cables, gas pipes and sprinkler systems.
As much of this work has taken place in the heart of the building at the very centre, frequently opening up floors, we have temporarily closed off certain rooms and floors to allow our builders and carpenters to work undisturbed and to protect the safety of all those who have been working on our building.
This has had a knock-on effect on where we can proceed with other works.
We’ve been using Room 6, Chestnut, which is yet to be painted and decorated as a temporary workshop so that our carpenters can work efficiently.
We have been able to proceed with the installation of the Karndean natural wood effect flooring in Room 1, Willow. This is the only guest room to use this type of flooring as it is on the ground floor with it’s own external entrance to a private terrace and, as this room will also be both dog-friendly and accessible for wheel-chair users, we felt this would be more practical.
This type of floor will also be used in our new rear passage from the hall (which already has original Minton floor tiles) to a new rear entrance.
We have almost completed adding the Polysafe Ultima floor in our kitchen.
This picture shows the view from part-way down our new rear passage to the front of the building. Our sea-view lounge windows are just visible in the distance. In the foreground, on the right, our V & A Puddleglaze Peacock Blue tiles for one of our two ground floor toilets can be seen.
We have been working on our front area, here installing new steps leading from our side entrance up to our sea view patio. The wood panels will become doors into our sea-view restaurant.
Our sea views from our front patio (the steps in the previous picture are just behind the blue sacks) are amazing!
