Kent & East Sussex Railway Tenterden

Tenterden, about 75 minutes drive from The Bay Tree is a perfect day out

Tenterden High Street

Known as ‘The Jewel of the Weald’, the Cinque Port of Tenterden has arguably one of the nicest high streets in the country, with historic houses, shops, restaurants and pubs separated from the carriageway by wide grass verges.

Tenterden’s charming high street and adjacent lanes boast a range of quirky independent stores which allow visitors to experience shopping as it used to be – it’s just the place to find that special gift, local craft, book, clothing or antique in a relaxed and welcoming environment.

Tenterden is still a market town and hosts two Friday markets and a selection of street stalls where you can buy a huge range of products such as delicious bread, vegetables, fruit, fresh salmon, yummy olives and lovely flowers.

Kent & East Sussex Railway

The Kent & East Sussex Railway is the country’s finest example of a rural light railway. The line gently wends its way from Tenterden – “The Jewel of The Weald” for ten and a half miles, through the unspoilt countryside of the Rother Valley, to terminate in the shadow of the magnificent National Trust castle at Bodiam.
