Bay Tree Broadstairs Refurbishment Week 49

The Bay Tree Broadstairs is currently closed for a major refurbishment and will re-open in December 2017.

We’ve delayed re-opening owing to slower than anticipated progress with our refurbishment.

We’re now managing the remainder of our build (primarily decoration, second-fixes and snagging plus landscaping) ourselves along with a new site manager instead of through our original building contractors.

We would like to thank all of our guests for their patience – we will be open as soon as we can and we’re sure it’ll be worth the wait!

We are still reachable by phone 01843 862502 & email for enquiries and future bookings.

We’re now starting to build the wall and boundary on the left of our drive.

Our original boundary wall can be seen in this picture.

We are continuing to build our walls and level our car park at the rear of The Bay Tree.

Our bay tree, supposedly the oldest and largest in Kent, is flourishing – although we will get our local tree surgeon to give it a smart trim once the refurbishment is complete.

We have now started to add the first of our bespoke oak thresholds, which will go across all room entrances and entrances to en suite bathrooms and wetrooms. Here the oak which will line our staircases is also visible. There is a bit of work to do with finishes, trims and varnishes but we think this will really stand out as a very nice feature of The Bay Tree when we reopen.

This is the carpet that will line our landings with the oak surrounds and thresholds bordering it.

Whilst some rooms are ‘snagged’ – when we deal with finishing details, such as paint finishes and scuffs, checking all woodwork (for example to ensure doors and windows close properly), other spaces are being used to touch up furniture – some being painted, much being re-varnished etc.

We are focusing our efforts from the top of the hotel working downwards, so we hope to be able to start moving furniture into some areas very soon and showing off how our completed rooms will look!

We will be introducing some new artwork, which we have had especially framed, into the hotel – this is an example!

Our public toilets are beginning to get their finishing touches, such as their hand-dryers now being added.

We still find time for relaxing walks with Ben, such as to the nearby Reculver Towers Country Park.
