Bay Tree Broadstairs Refurbishment Week 38

The Bay Tree Broadstairs is currently closed for a major refurbishment and will re-open in August 2017.

We are still reachable by phone 01843 862502 & email for enquiries and future bookings.

We have now got our new marble fireplace installed in our sea-view lounge. We have tried to be as sympathetic to the style of what would have been originally in our building as we can

We have used orignal tiles salvaged during our refurbishment in our hearth

We’ve now completed plastering the lounge and have also been adding architraves and ceiling roses.

This is the chandelier that will go in our sea-view lounge. The area above the new ceiling roses has been reinforced to take the chandelier’s weight

Out the back, we’ve been building the fencing that will provide a private terrace for Room 1, Willow, which will be an accessible room with step-free access

The plastering and initial paints in our kitchen are now done, and a lot of the electrics, including commercial led kitchen lighting, are now in place. The floor is nearly ready for its commercial Polysafe Ultima surface

More of our rooms, such as Room 2, Hazel, with it’s oriel window, are now nearly complete

The owners’ main office is almost ready for its shelves and its desks, which will be made from the same high-quality laminate we are using in the owners’ kitchen. The area with the two owners offices, lounge and kitchen is designed so that it can later be converted into guest accommodation (with the second office reverting to being an en suite wet room), should the owners move off-site to a neighbouring property.
The owners areas will have dedicated bells and the whole hotel, including guest bedrooms, will have a digital phone system, so that owners can be reached when they are not already with guests

This is the owners kitchen, located just beyond the stairs from the hall on the first floor: it is big enough to have an oven, 2 burner induction and 2 burner gas hob, dishwasher, washer-dryer (separate from the commerical washer dryers in our utility room), fridge, oven, microwave oven and extractor fan

On the floor above, the plastering has now been completed in the owners’ bedroom (again, this has it’s own en suite wet room and can be converted to guest accommodation)

The en suite bathroom in Room 7, Alder, is almost ready. The size has doubled by building into a ‘hidden’ room behind the old bath opening a window to our rear, and by excavating inside a chimney (not seen, to the left of the sink here) there is a shower in a wet room area

This is the view from our top landing down our stairs. We’ve finally managed to get our banisters in place – not easy, especially when stairs are normally constructed from the bottom going up, not from the top going down

Aside from refurbishing, we’ve also been perfecting some new dishes, such as duck breast and liver paté with pisctachios, for our sea-view restaurant
