Bay Tree Broadstairs Refurbishment Week 19

The Bay Tree Broadstairs is currently closed for a major refurbishment and will re-open in May 2017

We are still reachable on 01843 862502 and

Ben Feb site meeting

Ben has been busy conducting our monthly site meeting with our builders and architects! He is very excited about how the refurbishment of his hotel is going!

This is the view from Room 10. This window will become a large picture window

These pictures show some of our windows being constructed, using Acacia wood from New Zealand, known for being highly durable and water-resistant

We will have 49 new windows, including 4 new patio windows, 2 ‘Juliet balcony’ windows, 2 triple-aspect sea-view ‘turrets’, several oriel windows allowing sea-views where we previously didn’t have them and French doors from our sea-view restaurant on to our front patio

This is the kind of finish to our window frames our carpenters are achieving. We are staying as close to the original design of The Bay Tree, built in 1895, as we can

We’re sorting through our original tiles that we’ve found during our refurbishment ready to be used in our hearths – we’ve fireplaces in our sea-view lounge, our luxury library and in two of our guest bedrooms

This is the view from our roof, again taken from our scaffolding

In the foreground of this picture, we will add an additional triple-aspect sea-view ‘turret’ to Room 10

These are some of our chimney pots, which will either go back on our chimneys or be used in our gardens

Our ceilings and floors are taking shape. You can see cables for our fire alarms and re-enforced plates where we will be hanging chandeliers

We’ve been scaling up our bay tree, supposedly the oldest and largest bay tree in Kent, to examine it more closely

Ben has been posing for his picture to be sketched!

Ben couldn’t resist taking a break from our monthly site meeting to admire our sea-views from our restaurant: the window he’s looking out of will have French doors out onto our patio
