Bay Tree Refurbishment

The Bay Tree closed on 3rd of October for it’s major refurbishment and our builders have now started work

We are still reachable on our 01843 862502 & at

Over the next 6 months, we will be taking out chimneys, increasing bathroom sizes and converting to wet-rooms, replacing all windows, changing the heating and electrics, adding a luxury library/ bar, rebuilding where the owners extension was to create a room with full disabled access, increasing the kitchen and utility areas and lots and lots more

The scaffolding is now going up and the fencing added:

The carpets are coming out – and placed on the soon-to-be demolished old owners accommodation (this area will be re-built on 3 floors, in a much more sympathetic style to match the rest of the building)

As the strip-out progresses we’ve been discovering some very interesting pieces of information

Room 6 (top floor double/ twin, with 2 windows, one facing The Devonhurst, the smaller with a sea view) would have originally been the main bathroom for the house, given the lino floor:

We’ve uncovered newspapers as far back as 1967 and 1968

We’ve been careful to read the style tips from October 1967:

We’ve been keeping up with the politics with Ted Heath (note, of course, the Broadstairs connection as he spent a considerable time in our town)

We even found an old pack of Woodbine cigarettes – does anyone remember these?

We’ve already ripped out the bar (we tried selling it first on Ebay)

As you can see, it will give us quite a bit more space in the dining room/ restaurant, where you can also see the doorways to the kitchen (we’ll block the one to the left) and you can see the old fireplace

Behind the dining room, in the kitchen was our old boiler (our new ones will be elsewhere). We apologise if you ever stayed with us and heard it clanking, especially as it pushed water through the pipes around our building.

However, we thought that you may wish to see her now before she goes

Do keep checking our blog for more updates, pictures and images as our transformation progresses
