All seven beaches awarded the prestigious accolade in 2015 have maintained their status and will be flying the Blue Flag for another year.

The beaches are Minnis Bay; West Bay; St Mildreds Bay; Ramsgate Main Sands; Botany Bay; Joss Bay and Stone Bay.

They are among just 68 beaches across the country to get the status, which is an international benchmark of quality presented to beaches which meet the highest standards for cleanliness, facilities and water quality.

Thanet has also achieved Seaside Award status for Margate Main Sands, Westbrook Bay and Viking Bay.

There were 111 Seaside Awards presented to beaches country-wide.

The Seaside Award recognises beaches in England that achieve the highest standards of beach management and, in the case of bathing beaches, meet the required standards for water quality.

Nationally Thanet came third for the total amount of awards with Cornwall awarded 19 -11 Seaside Awards and eight Blue Flag- closely followed by Torbay with 13 -ten Seaside Awards and three Blue Flag Awards – and Thanet with ten awards seven Blue Flag Awards and three Seaside Awards.

Cabinet member for regeneration and enterprise services,Cllr Hunter Stummer-Schmertzing, said: “What a tremendous achievement for Thanet.Once again we rank amongst the best in the country and have another reason to celebrate our stunning coastline.

“Our nationally awarded beaches help to provide an extra mark of quality and ensure that beach users know they are clean, safe and meet the highest environmental standards, as well as the tough bathing water quality standards.

“With tourism worth an estimated £286million to the local economy I’m sure this will come as welcome news to our local businesses and the many concessions around the coast who help to ensure we provide a first class experience for visitors.”

Keep Britain Tidy’s Coastal Awards manager Paul Todd said: “It is great that we have been able to award more beaches this year with Blue Flag and Seaside Awards.

“As an environmental charity, Keep Britain Tidy is committed to improving the quality of the places where people live, work and holiday and these winners have proved their commitment to providing the best possible beaches for locals and visitors alike.

“The public can be sure, if they visit a Blue Flag or Seaside Award winning beach, that they are visiting one of the best beaches in the world.”
