St Margaret’s at Cliffe

One of our favourite areas to walk with Ben, our Bedlington Poodle, is on the cliffs at nearby St Margarets at Cliffe, with stunning views across the English Channel and over the dramatic cliffs

Channel swimmers and submarine telephone cables start from St Margaret’s Bay. At the north end of the bay is Leathercote Point (sometimes spelt Leathercoat Point or Lethercote Point), where there is a war memorial commemorating the Dover Patrol. According to the International Hydrographic Organization, Leathercote Point marks the western end of the line which defines the divide between the North Sea and the English Channel, the opposite end being at the Walde Lighthouse near Calais.

It is located just off the coast road between Deal and Dover, around a 40 minute drive from The Bay Tree. We recommend going on the A256 via the delightful town of Sandwich and through spectacular countryside, more walks and lots of farms.

Close by is also The White Cliffs of Dover, now a National Trust site overlooking the port of Dover and the English Heritage run Dover Castle

Ben, with his new coat he got for Christmas!
