The Bay Tree can be seen in the centre of the cliffs in this picture taken from beautiful Stone Bay

This is our sea-view terrace at the front of The Bay Tree

From our hall, you can now see right through to our new rear entrance at our rear. We will replicate our original floor in our hall in our new rear passage to enhance the feeling of continuity

This will be Room 3. We are restoring the fireplace and adding oriel windows on either side of the fireplace which will allow partial sea-views. The light in the picture is shining into the bathroom

These are just some of the pipes that will be carrying our new heating and hot water systems around The Bay Tree

We are restoring our roof tiles – this picture is taken from the rear of the hotel looking towards the front

We’re almost ready to add the 2nd floor of our new extension to the rear of the hotel. We will be landscaping this area around our bay tree, supposedly the largest and oldest in Kent

We’ve selected this stunning Schumacher fabric to reupholster our chairs in our library

We’re always on the look out for quirky and unique items, such as this stunning ink-well, to go into the hotel

We’re taking care to restore our door frames – this picture is looking from our sea-view lounge, through the hall, to our library

We’re very pleased with how the re-upholstering of our dinning-room chairs is progressing

Our windows in our roof are now beginning to take shape – the right triple-aspect sea view window is for Room 10, which also benefits from another window to the side looking at both the sea and cliff views – probably our best view in the whole hotel! The left triple-aspect sea view window is also due to be replaced.

All of our new windows will be wood framed – we are using Acacia wood from New Zealand, known for it’s strength and durability

We are busy insulating as much as we can

This is the sea and cliff view – probably the best view in the hotel – from the side window in Room 10 (the glass shown will get changed into a large picture window, without the central column!)

This is the new triple-aspect sea view turret in Room 10

We’ve just aquired these beautiful art deco arm chairs for our library – we will, as usual, be re-upholstering to make them look really stunning!

This is the Art Noveau fireplace for the library where the armchairs will go

This is the desk (which after a little TLC) will also be going into the library

The view and the light from our sea-view lounge streaming in is still amazing, even whilst we are still in the middle of refurbishments

We’ve also been finding time for some dog walks in nearby Tankerton, with Alistair and Ben enjoying walking along the beach

The top right of The Bay Tree shows our new triple aspect sea view window being installed in the roof of Room 10

This is the stunning sea view our guests will get from this new window

This is some of the insulation we are installing to ensure our guests are kept nice and warm

At the rear of the hotel, our new extension is coming along nicely. On the right you can see our lovely bay tree, supposedly the oldest and largest in Kent

The first and second floors (the second floor is about to be added) will contain the owners accommodation and will have their own balcony at the rear, but are designed so that they can easily be converted into more guest bedrooms later, should we want to do this

This is the view from inside the owners accommodation, which will comprise of a lounge, owners kitchen and two offices on the first floor, plus owners bedroom and ensuite wet room on the second floor

This is taken from the roof of the first floor of the owners accommodation. Viking Bay can be glimpsed in the distance

Here, we are looking from Room 4 into the bathroom of Room 5, our balcony sea view room, before the wall is filled in

Ben is keeping a close eye on the progress of the refurbishment of his hotel (he’s just been for a refreshing dip in the sea so is looking a little wet here!)

Here, we are looking at our efforts to preserve our door frames

Ben (in the distance here) has also been enjoying the winter sun on Deal Pier, just a short drive from The Bay Tree

We bought this beautiful Art Deco clock complete with Westminster Chimes for the mantelpiece in our sea view lounge this morning at the Whitstable Castle Antiques Fair

This will be the mantelpiece in our sea view lounge

These last two pictures show Stone Bay, directly across from The Bay Tree, looking stunning in the sunshine, especially with the winter waves crashing. Ben, as you can see, loves coming down here to relax!
