Bay Tree Broadstairs Refurbishment Week 58

The Bay Tree Broadstairs is currently closed for a major refurbishment and will re-open in December 2017.

We’ve delayed re-opening owing to slower than anticipated progress with our refurbishment.

We’re now managing the remainder of our build (primarily decoration, second-fixes and snagging plus landscaping) ourselves along with a new site manager instead of through our original building contractors.

We would like to thank all of our guests for their patience – we will be open as soon as we can and we’re sure it’ll be worth the wait!

We have been laying our new sea-view patio in front of The Bay Tree.

The french windows on the right lead into our sea-view restaurant. The windows where some of the slabs are stacked belong to our sea-view lounge. We have taken care to use new wood-framed windows throughout our refurbishment to respect The Bay Tree’s heritage.

We’ve just bought a sundial to be placed on the patio!

The front of The Bay Tree is looking pretty good.

Our bespoke library shelves have now been fitted.

Here the bar bridge has been positioned with a carefully measured floor support below. Above the fridge is the template for the actual bar, which will be made of a granite composite cut especially to fit.

In our hallway, leading into our sea-view restaurant we’ve been clearing out crevices ready for redecoration: we even found some old lead-wiring that had been hidden away.

We’re starting work on restoring the original wooden floors in our sea-view restaurant next week, before adding the antique pieces which will form the buffet area at the rear of the restaurant. Here we are carefully selecting specific pieces of timber which we will need to replace.

We are moving a lot of furniture back into The Bay Tree ready to be fitted.

In our basement, we have now been able to remove all the boxes of equipment our builders, plumbers and electricians needed and have been painting the walls with bitumen before they are dry-lined next week and we can start adding shelving and racking.

We hope it won’t be long now before we can cease using our sea-view lounge as a workshop and can start to add some finishing coats of paint and get the carpet fitted.
We think that our view over Stone Bay is amazing!
